If you see anything on stage this weekend, see WEST. Steven Berkoff’s gritty drama of London’s gangland grips tightly to its brutally uncompromising setting and a brooding Dickensian cast of characters. The various components are cemented together by Berkoff’s dazzling flow of language the argot of the seedy streets and lives. In WEST, words become a dramatic tour de force. Directed with Panache by Derek Doddington, the play continually twitches and jumps with a nervous energy which makes it a richly satisfying theatrical experience. Quite simply, superb.
