Director, Derek Doddington, describes this award-winning play as a bitingly
funny and honest look at modern relationships, the story of four strangers,
their chance meetings, instant attractions and casual betrayals.
Rob Tilby plays Dan, an aspiring novelist who earns his living writing
obituaries. After an accident in the street, Dan meets Alice, played by
Helen Prior, a stripper who becomes his muse and inspiration to write his first
novel.
It's only when Dan poses for the photo of his book jacket cover, that he
meets the beautiful Anna, portrayed by Elsie Edgerton-Till - and their mutual
attraction spells complication.
Larry, played by Charles Grubb, is the fourth main character; a
self-assured dermatologist, who "meets" Dan in an Internet chat room, where Dan,
obsessed with Anna, is pretending to be a woman.
Set in London, this sets the play up as a series of pass-the-lover scenes
in
which the quartet struggle to find intimacy, taking us via Larry's
hospital, Anna's Studio, The London Aquarium, Alice's Strip club and finally to a
small memorial in the centre of London called Postman's Park.
Anna Willow, Rebecca Browning and Erin Hutching assist as a myriad of
characters.
And whilst we all hold secrets, in CLOSER, perhaps Alice holds the biggest
secret of them all.
