Top Dog Theatre Company was voted the Best Small Theatre Company
for 2003, and intends to drive forward on this success. Director Derek Doddington
has teamed up with Jay Versteeg BA Dip Tchg, Drama Teacher,
to offer drama courses as well as developing a holdiay program for young people.
Whereas the drama classes are individually written and devised for 3 different age groups to develop
personal and theatrical skills, the holiday program mixes all age groups together.
This allows the younger children to learn from those older particiants around them and also
gives the older children a satisfying sense of responsibility, through leadership by example.
The tuition classes are structured and linked towards the 4 drama strands in our school curriculum.
The holiday program will be more aimed towards the participants having fun, whilst aiming towards
the creation of a performance on the final day. This will entail developing a broader range skills
as well the chance of working with a wider range of material and people.
Again, whereas the courses concentrate specifically on developing these youths in their confidence
and public speaking skills, we find that the holiday program extends the participants
in their understanding of working towards a goal, whilst also improving their movement and imagination.
We find that working towards a performance helps concentration and committment.
Through mixing with other different age groups, we find participants still further improve their interation skills.
