It is no surprise therefore that under Derek's guidance, Top Dog Theatre has teamed up with Jay Versteeg BA Dip Tchg, Drama Teacher,
to offer drama courses for 3 age groups of young people to develop
their skills in the world of theatre.
The 3 classes are :
• Juniors 4-7 year olds
• Intermediate 8-12 year olds
• Senior 13-17 year olds - ON
HOLD
The classes are individually designed for each group, although also designed that all the participants have fun. There will be structured game playing and role playing, all aimed and linked towards the 4 drama strands in our school curriculum.
These 4 strands are :
1 Developing Practical Knowledge (PK)
2 Developing Ideas in Drama (DI)
3 Communicating and Interpreting in Drama (CI)
4 Understanding Drama in Context (UC)
Besides assisting and developing these youths in their confidence and public speaking skills, we work on voice, in both diction and projection. There is extensive work on movement and imagination as well as improvisation.
We find role playing is especially helpful with improving interation skills and developing self-esteem.
These courses will run on Thursday evenings, for 8 weeks, commencing 19th February 2004.
The times are as follows :
Juniors 4:00 - 4:50 pm
Intermediate 5:00 - 5:50 pm
Senior 6:00 - 6:50 pm
The cost is $80 per child for the entire 8 week course.
